Manroland Sheetfed Closing Down
OFFENBACH , GERMANY—
Manroland Sheetfed’s Offenbach factory will be be shut down completely with the loss of more than 660 jobs. Offenbach includes a state-of-the-art foundry and extensive production and assembly halls of around 114,000sqm on a 72 acre site. A sale process is underway for the firm’s spares and service business. The loss-making press manufacturer is owned by UK-headquartered engineering group Langley Holdings and entered insolvency proceedings in early March, with the aim of carrying out major restructuring.
Manroland Sheetfed will phase out the production of new presses, while “ensuring that existing delivery commitments can be fulfilled”. In February Langley Holdings (bought Manroland sheetfed in 2012 out of insolvency)said that mounting losses at the press manufacturing subsidiary had become unsustainable – the business lost €43.2m ($68.7 million Canadian) last year. The phasing out of production is expected to begin in early summer, and just 84 employees from the current workforce of 750 at the site will be kept on.
