BELL Forces Customers Into Paperless Bills
MONTREAL—
Email notice to customers that all invoices will as for February will be paperless.
|
Bell Canada customers will start to receive their bills to their email address, and will no longer receive a paper bill. Customer's January bills will be the last delivered in paper format. It appears customers will have no choices. The Telecommunications Act was amended to prohibit providers of telecommunication services from charging subscribers for paper bills. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), issued a decision almost two years later to not require phone companies to provide customers with a paper bills.
Bell switched cell phone customers to paperless last March with out notifying them

Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) and National Pensioners Federation (NPF) have taken actions to fight this. Notably, in June 2020, PIAC and (NPF) filed a Petition to Cabinet of the Federal government to reverse the CRTC’s decision that allows phone companies to change their customers’ monthly bill from paper to electronic format. Their Petition requests the Cabinet to grant the petition, and either rescind the CRTC’s decision or to refer it back to the CRTC for reconsideration with a direction to consider consumer rights to paper billing as a paramount requirement.
