Transcontinental Closing RBW Owen Sound Plant
OWEN SOUND, ONTARIO—
Transcontinental has announced that it will permanently close its Owen Sound, Ontario, printing plant at the end of January 2027. Approximately 360 employees will lose their jobs as the company moves production to other facilities across Canada. The RBW is a heat set web operation that in 2015 had over 600 employees. It is still one of the largest printing operations in Canada. Many employees are expected to keep working until January, while others may have opportunities to transfer to another company location.
Transcontinental says improvements at its other printing facilities, along with changes in customer demand, mean it can handle the Owen Sound plant’s work elsewhere. The company plans to move production to five other facilities in its Canadian network. Transcontinental bought RBW back in 1992, the plant began as Richardson, Bond & Wright in 1907. Known locally as RBW Graphics. News of this plant closure has been covered as far way as Taiwan.
