Postal Strike Negotiations Grind To A Halt
OTTAWA—
Canada Post is considering its options to move negotiations forward as talks with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have ground to a halt on key issues critical to the Corporation’s future. Negotiations continue with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) as the Corporation marks day 11 of CUPW’s national strike. Negotiations have been supported by a special mediator since Monday, November 18. Talks continued through this past weekend.
The union has had other priorities and therefore the parties remain far apart. That means we have not yet reached agreements for the Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units. Any were from 60% to 70% of what is printed goes through the mail. The last postal strike was a major hit for the Canadian printing industry.

CPC has been losing millions for years now, it's no secret that less and less people need to use CP anymore. Marketers are moving away from this expensive advertising channel as well.
Much like printing, conventional mailing will simply become a smaller industry, I think that whatever fulltime jobs are still salvageable there, the union workers should consider securing those with the latest agreement offered and accept times have changed, unfortunately not in their favour. Sorry, but the writing is clearly on the wall.
Modern technology replaces conventional methodology, over and over again.
