ATLANTA, GEORGIA—
Demo of new Gallus One inkjet label press

In early June, Heidelberg held an Innovation Showcase for customers and media at its Print Media Performance and Training Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Taking centre stage were a new inkjet label press, the Gallus One, and the Speedmaster XL 106 with updated features. The Gallus One is a 13.8 inch wide web machine that prints up to 70 m per minute at 1200 x 1200 dpi. It prints in CMYK plus white. The press is designed as a complete eco system from Heidelberg with state-of-the-art inkjet technology, a new ink set, workflow software, and a new monitoring service to reduce downtime.
It also features a Korona treatment for ink receptivity and an ultrasonic, patented head cleaning system in which the cleaning heads come to the print heads, which are stationary. Heidelberg says this is the first model of an eventual line of label presses. Designed for ease of use, the press is ideal for commercial printers who currently farm out label work, for printers just entering the label market, and for the traditional label market where, according to the company, old equipment needs replacement.
