Agfa Has Strong Earnings Because of Legal Disputes
MORTSEL, BELGIUM—
Agfa’s Q2 and first-half results jumped because of a massive €45m settlement related to a decades-long legal dispute. The payment – €38m plus interest – relates to the 2004 sale of the AgfaPhoto business, which subsequently went into insolvency in 2005. Agfa is still awaiting a decision regarding the €25m outstanding receivable from Aurelius following the 2023 sale of its Offset Solutions wing, now ECO3.
In Q2 2025 Agfa’s group revenue slipped by 1.6% to €281m, and was down 2.4% for the half-year at €523m. Agfa’s Digital Print & Chemicals division grew sales by 6.1% to €118m, “mainly driven by Specialty Films & Chemicals”, while softer market conditions impacted the Digital Printing Solutions and Green Hydrogen businesses. Adjusted Q2 EBITDA at the wing slipped from €11.6m to €10m.
