Decline in Long Run Printing, LSC Closes Two Plants
CHICAGO—
LSC Communications, North America's fourth largest printer, says it is closing two of its facilities. More than 650 workers will be let go by the end of March.The work at those plants will be shifted to two other LSC operations. The company says the shutdown is the result of a steady decline in demand for long-run printing. Demand for long-run catalog and magazine printing has continued to decline, while paper and ink costs continue to rise. Customers are reducing their page counts and print runs, and some are converting to other marketing channels the company said.
LSC is the largest book printer in North America also a major retail inserts printer, magazine printer and office products manufacturer. LSC has two locations in Canada, Newmarket and Mississauga under the Tops Products and Esselte Canada names. LSC Communications which was spun off from Donnelly in 2016. The company was bought out of bankruptcy by Atlas Holdings, a private equity company in 2020.
