OFFENBACH, GERMANY—  Manroland Sheetfed has snapped up the former head of Heidelberg’s large-format press division  and aims to target the “gaping hole” left by its rival’s exit from that part of the market. Bernhard Schaaf, who  worked at the Heidelberg  for  14 plus years, was vice president for the Speedmaster XL145 and XL162 VLF press ranges at the time. Prior to that he had held senior project and market development roles for VLF presses and the Primefire 106 B1 inkjet press, which was also discontinued as part of " getting back to basics".
