Smarties Goes To 100% Paper Packaging
SWITZERLAND—
Nestle has announced that its Smarties brand will be using recyclable paper packaging for its confectionery products worldwide. This is a transition of 90% of the Smarties packaging , 10% is already packed in recyclable paper packaging. Smarties is the first global brand to switch to 100% recyclable paper packaging, removing approximately 250 million plastic packs sold globally every year.
Nestlé says that it invested “significantly” to upgrade its factories globally. Developing safe and convenient paper-based solutions for Smarties has required the pioneering of new materials and testing by Nestlé packaging R&D Center. The transformation of the Smarties packaging is one of the brands' 'SMART Initiatives', which aim to support sustainability and enhance the overall product experience.

that's funny - it reminds me of the carboard tubes they used to come in. What's old is new again I guess.

I guess I'm getting old. When I was a kid and still eating Smarties the only way they came was in a cardboard box. Why is this now "revolutionary"?
