RBW Owen Sound Plant Adds Work But No Jobs
OWEN SOUND, ONTARIO—
Transcontinental LGM Winnipeg plant’s closure will mean more work for Transcontinental RBW Graphics in Owen Sound, but not more local jobs. It will help stabilize the operation and secure the current workforce. It is not expected to add any additional jobs. RBW Owen Sound plant employs about 450 people and primarily prints retail sales flyers that are instead in the newspapers.
The next major segment is magazine printing. LGM Winnipeg mainly printed short-run magazine printing jobs for niche publications. Transcontinental has 12 printing plants, all in Canada. They have been moving into the flexable packaging field and out of commercial printing. Transcontinental is still the largest printer in Canada according to the Graphic Monthly's list of Top 100 Canadian printers.
