Postal Strike Put on Hold
OTTAWA—
The pending postal strike has been put on hold. The postal workers union has said it would not issue the required 72 hour job action notice. Negotiations were facing a Wednesday deadline of 12.01 a.m. deadline for a strike or lock out. Both sides are continuing to talk . The union is demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
The union has warned its members that there may still be a work stoppage if there is no progress in negotiations. With 50% to 70% of what is printed going through the mail a strike would have a significant impact on the printing industry. A number of direct mail printers have said it took over a year to get volumes back up after the last strike.
