Landa rep discusses key nano upgrades
TORONTO—Landa Digital Printing's Kristof Dekeukelaere says the most important upgrade to the company's development-phase nano technology are its quality enhancing ink ejectors.

From the first nanography preview at Drupa 2012 to the recent update at China Print, print resolution has been boosted from 600 to 1,200 dpi. Dekeukelaere, regional sales manager for North America, says this is only 85% of what Landa looks to achieve.

"Benny [Landa] says there will be no press unless it is offset quality," said Dekeukelaere during his keynote address at the Graphics Canada trade show on Nov. 21.

He added that the new ink ejectors have also considerably improved reliability, citing their ability to "grow" for redundancy to compensate in case of nozzle failure.

Fielding questions from the audience, Dekeukelaere said that the first production model release will be 7-colour. The S10FC folding carton press will be the first commercial release, slated for Beta in late 2014, followed by the S10 C for mainstream commercial production scheduled for the first half of 2015.

Komori machines will follow Landa's releases. While other companies including Heidelberg and Manroland have access to the technology, Dekeukelaere said he had no information on the plans of other companies outside of Komori, which Landa has partnered with for its own machines. Landa's nanographic sheetfed devices are built on a Komori frame, utilizing Komori's auto paper handling technology.
