Domtar to acquire Xerox's paper business
MONTREAL—Domtar has signed an agreement through its subsidiaries to acquire Xerox's paper and print media products in Canada and the U.S. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2013.
"This deal brings together Xerox's branded papers with Domtar's already comprehensive paper offering and will allow us to better serve our customers," said John D. Williams, Domtar president and chief executive officer, in a release.
Though Xerox doesn't actually manufacture paper, it distributes a wide range of coated and uncoated papers and specialty print media through the Xerox brand name, including business forms and wide-format paper.
"As Xerox broadens its business to focus more on services and innovative document technology, we saw an opportunity for our paper business clients to be better served by a leader in the industry," said Frank Edmonds, senior vice president of Xerox Global Paper and Supplies Distribution Group.
The purchase will boost Domtar's paper offerings, which include communication, specialty and packagaing papers. Its paper brands include Cougar, Lynx, Opaque Ultra, Husky Opaque Offset, and First Choice. According to company info, Domtar had sales of $5.5 billion USD from some 50 countries in 2012.
Until the transaction closes, Xerox customers can order paper and media as usual through Xerox Supplies sales reps.
