Lyman Henderson, former president of Davis+Henderson, passes away
TORONTO—Lyman Henderson, former president of commercial printer Davis+Henderson, lost his battle with colon cancer at the age of 91 on Friday.
Henderson stepped away from his role as president of D+H more than 25 years ago to step up his community involvement (The Presbyterian Church, The Arts & Letters Club, and The Power Plant Gallery to name a few).
"You might say that printing was my vocation but these other interests my avocation," he wrote.
He was an avid writer, and you can read some of his short stories here. His latest entry on Bedtime Stories for Grown Ups was dated June 20, just two days before his passing.
Henderson was also a regular columnist for many years for Graphic Monthly magazine. Sandy Donald, president of North Island Graphics Media which publishes Graphic Monthly, said Henderson was a pioneer of the concept of printing for a specific market (the financial services sector). "He took a run-of-the-mill printer and turned it into an extremely profitable company," said Donald.
Henderson was also a member of the Order of Canada.
Visitations for Henderson will be at Humphrey Funeral Home-A.W. Miles Chapel in Toronto on July 18 from 7-9 p.m. as well as July 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Kleinburg on July 20 at 11 a.m.
