Angelson new CEO at World Color Press; Mallette out
MONTREAL—Mark Angelson is the new chairman and CEO of World Color Press, the company announced this morning. Jacques Mallette, who guided the company through its restructuring process, is leaving to "pursue outside business interests," according to a company release.
According to industry sources, World Color Press must address three key areas: it must re-tool its plants, it has to improve margins and it has to beef up its management team. A seasoned veteran like Angelson, who has headed up RR Donnelley and Moore Wallace in the U.S. may have been perceived as a stronger candidate for the job.
But there is also speculation of disagreement among top management as to the importance of the Canadian marketplace. If World Color is to grow, it must focus its energies in the U.S., and sources say Mallette may have been more Canadian centric than the new board. "It's not a good sign for Canada," one insider told PrintCan. Could the Canadian operations be on the block soon?
