Canadian magazine ad pages down 18.2% in Q2
NATIONAL—Run-of-press ad pages for the country's leading magazine were down 18.2% in the second quarter of 2009, according to data from Leading National Advertisers Canada, which tracks pages for 75 magazines, including most of the titles owned by Rogers Publishing, Transcontinental Media, St. Joseph Media, Reader's Digest and TVA Publications.
Only eight magazines posted gains in the quarter, compared to the 67 that posted losses. The business magazine category was hardest hits, with major drops at Affaires Plus (-68.3%), Moneysense (-66.3%) Canadian Business (-50%), Report on Business (-41.9%) and Financial Post Magazine (-37.1%). Other notable decliners include Canadian Geographic (-33.8%), Canadian House & Home (-29.9%), Outdoor Canada (-29.9%), Canadian Home Workshop (-29.2%) and Toronto Life (-25.8%).
